Discoveries: Peter Gabriel

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I’ve been busy doing various different things. Of course I haven’t neglected music at all though. I’m still discovering new music everyday. A particular artist who has captured my interest recently is Peter Gabriel. He’s one of the few artists I can describe as fascinating – a term I don’t use lightly. I can’t get enough of this live performance of Biko from 1986. It’s from the final date of the Amnesty International Conspiracy of Hope Tour. Biko is such a beautiful, haunting song. The lyrics – about noted South African anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko – never fail to send shivers down my spine. This live performance of the song is even more chilling. Simply haunting.

A Sad Day.

ImageI’ve been left very shocked and saddened by the news that Lou Reed has passed away, age 71. His legendary Transformer album is an all-time favourite record of mine. I’d also count The Velvet Underground amongst my favourite groups. I was listening to them just earlier today. So many great artists have been influenced by Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground. They truly are one of the most influential bands of all time. It’s a sad, sad day for music. My condolences naturally go out to his family and friends. To be honest I’m so shocked words fail me. It’s awful having to bid farewell to one of the all-time legends. His music is eternal, and through that he shall live on. That’s all I have to say really. RIP Lou Reed.
